Afghan University Professor Tells RANA of Arrest in Pakistan and Alleged Fabrication of Confession Videos

An Afghan university professor, Abdul Samad Rawan, has told RANA that he was detained during a trip to Pakistan and witnessed actions which he claims were used for wartime propaganda.

According to Rawan, he traveled to Pakistan on January 12 for personal reasons but was arrested by Pakistani authorities on January 16, despite having valid documents and an authorized exit permit.

He added that during his detention, he saw many Afghans and innocent Pashtuns from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being held in prison, describing the conditions as harsh and deeply concerning.

Rawan further alleged that late at night, individuals with beards were taken out of the prison by intelligence personnel and returned hours later. Quoting one detainee, he said they were transported to a remote location, given clothes and weapons, and then filmed to make it appear as though they were militants captured by security forces.

He claims such videos were later presented to the international community as battlefield successes in an effort to influence global opinion.

These statements come amid ongoing concerns over regional security and the use of information warfare.
