United Nations Strongly Condemns Mosque Attack in Islamabad

The United Nations has strongly condemned yesterday’s attack on a mosque in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, describing it as an unacceptable act against civilians and a place of worship.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, it was said that the Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack, which was carried out against civilians during prayers.

The Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, said that the Secretary-General has once again stressed that attacks targeting civilians and places of worship are unacceptable under international norms. He added that those responsible for such attacks must be identified and brought to justice.

The statement also said that António Guterres expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, analysts say Pakistan has for years been grappling with persistent instability due to flawed, contradictory, and short-term security and regional policies. According to observers, the double standard in dealing with extremist groups, tolerance of militant networks, and failure to uproot the roots of terrorism have not only weakened domestic security but have also negatively affected regional stability.

Experts argue that unless Pakistan genuinely revises its policies and takes concrete, transparent action beyond political rhetoric, incidents of violence will continue and responsibility will continue to be shifted onto others.
