UN Renews Concerns Over Women’s Fundamental Rights in Afghanistan.

The United Nations has once again voiced concern over the lack of access to fundamental rights for Afghans — particularly women — under the current situation in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the mission urged the Taliban authorities to move closer toward fulfilling their international human rights obligations. According to the statement, the Taliban’s commitment to international human rights standards would pave the way for Afghanistan’s progress, stability, and economic development.

The UN General Assembly designated December 10 as International Human Rights Day in 1948.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, marking International Human Rights Day, said the current government is committed to upholding human rights within the framework of Islamic Sharia. He added that the Taliban administration respects the rights of Afghans and is committed to observing those human rights principles that are recognized under Islamic law.
