The Taliban government has responded to the latest UN Security Council session

The Taliban government has responded to the latest UN Security Council session, saying that constructive engagement between states can build trust, while negative positions “have no impact.”

Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said in a statement that several countries had emphasized positive engagement with Afghanistan, calling it essential for strengthening trust and serving the interests of all sides. He added that Afghanistan also seeks constructive relations with all countries.

Fitrat urged those states that “still hold an inaccurate stance toward Afghanistan” to adopt a realistic approach, stressing that negative policies “have been ineffective in the past and will remain so.” He said assessments should be based on the realities on the ground.

His comments follow the December 10 UNSC meeting on Afghanistan, held on International Human Rights Day, where representatives from Pakistan, India, Iran, and other nations and international bodies discussed the country’s human rights situation and political process.

The Taliban maintain that they remain open to engagement with the international community but argue that relations cannot be improved through pressure or negative approaches.
