The British newspaper reported that at least seven people were killed and around 85 others wounded in mortar and missile attacks launched from Pakistan into Afghanistan’s eastern .
According to the report, the attacks took place on Monday in the provincial capital and nearby areas, damaging civilian homes as well as buildings at .
The Taliban government’s deputy spokesperson, , said that women, children, and university students were among the wounded. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Higher Education also stated that around 30 students and professors at the university were injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture for Kunar, , said that seven people were killed and dozens more injured in the strikes.
The attacks came despite a pledge earlier this month by Taliban and Pakistani officials, during talks mediated by in , not to escalate tensions.
The report added that tensions between the two sides intensified after Afghanistan launched attacks across the disputed border in response to Pakistani airstrikes.
At the same time, said that with Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan continuing, all parties involved must take “constant and serious care” to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.
