OCHA: Afghanistan’s Maternal Mortality Rate Remains Among the Highest in the World

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs () has stated that Afghanistan’s maternal mortality rate remains among the highest globally.

According to OCHA, around 600 women and girls die for every 100,000 live births in Afghanistan, largely due to a lack of access to adequate healthcare services and facilities.

In a statement, OCHA said that while frontline health workers continue to save lives, restrictions on women and girls may further limit access to life-saving healthcare services.

The organization emphasized that sustained humanitarian support is essential to save the lives of mothers and children and to address the country’s healthcare challenges.
