The South Asia office of Amnesty International has urged the Pakistani authorities to immediately release Pashtun politician and human rights activist Ali Wazir and called for an end to all ongoing cases against him.
The organization says Ali Wazir has spent around 20 months trapped in a cycle of “arbitrary detention, repeated cases, and re-arrests,” which it claims are aimed solely at keeping him in prison.
According to the report, a court ordered his release on 16 March 2026, but he was re-arrested just hours later. Since then, three new cases have been filed against him, further extending his detention.
Amnesty International also reports that Ali Wazir began a hunger strike this week inside Dadu Jail, protesting the denial of urgent medical care despite suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and a heart condition.
The organization has urged the Government of Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure his health and to end what it describes as his “unjust and politically motivated detention.”
