Afghanistan: 3.7 Million Children and 1.2 Million Women Suffer from Severe Malnutrition

The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that across Afghanistan, 3.7 million children and 1.2 million women are affected by severe malnutrition.

The agency stated today on its social media platform X that with the rising levels of malnutrition, an increasing number of children are visiting WFP-supported clinics in Kabul every day.

Earlier, UNICEF had also reported that 942,000 children in Afghanistan suffer from severe malnutrition, while approximately 700,000 more children are at risk of moderate malnutrition.

The UN-affiliated agency emphasized that, given the growing needs, the World Food Programme continues to provide life-saving nutritional assistance and is working to ensure that mothers and children have rapid access to the medical care they urgently require.

Aid organizations have repeatedly warned that without immediate support, the nutritional situation of children and women in Afghanistan could deteriorate further, resulting in long-term negative effects on their health and development.
