World Press Freedom Day: Discussions Held in Kabul on Media Challenges and Support

The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee held a meeting in Kabul on the occasion of May 3, World Press Freedom Day, attended by officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture, representatives of various media outlets, and media-support organizations.

During the meeting, participants discussed the state of the media, access to information, the economic challenges facing media organizations, training programs for journalists, and the need for greater support for the media sector.

Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications at the Taliban-led Ministry of Information and Culture, said that the government is committed to supporting the media and will take practical measures to address the economic difficulties facing media organizations.

Representatives of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee also stated that, in addition to working toward creating a safe working environment for journalists, they have implemented training and capacity-building programs for media professionals.

Participants emphasized the importance of addressing the economic challenges facing the media, improving access to information, and strengthening support for journalists and media organizations.
