WFP Says Afghanistan Is Facing an Unprecedented Crisis of Severe Child Malnutrition

The United Nations World Food Programme has warned that Afghanistan is facing a serious and unprecedented crisis of severe child malnutrition, with a decline in international aid putting the lives of millions of children at risk.

According to a recent report by the World Food Programme, around four million children in Afghanistan are suffering from acute malnutrition, but three out of every four affected children are unable to receive the assistance they need. The organization says that funding shortages have further reduced humanitarian operations and worsened the situation for children.

The head of the agency in Afghanistan, John Aylieff, said the situation is unprecedented and warned that without urgent financial support, the lives of millions of children will be in serious danger. He added that due to the reduction in aid, the humanitarian needs of approximately 17.4 million people cannot be fully met.

The report also notes that families in remote areas continue to face severe food shortages and limited access to healthcare services, a situation that further increases health risks for children and mothers. The World Food Programme has called on the international community to increase its assistance and take urgent action to save the children of Afghanistan.
