The Taliban-appointed governor of Herat has emphasized expanding trade and transit with Turkmenistan.

Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar met with a Turkmen delegation and stressed the importance of strengthening trade and transit between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

According to a statement from the Herat provincial office, the two sides discussed enhancing operations at the Torghundi border port, implementing 24-hour operations, and providing greater facilities for traders.

Islamjar said that expanding trade and transit with Turkmenistan is important for boosting the economic relations between the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed a project to construct 1,250 meters of railway track at the Torghundi port, which is expected to increase the capacity for loading and unloading commercial goods.
