Senior Pakistani Army Officer Killed in Bannu Attack

A senior officer of the Pakistan Army, Colonel Shahzad Gul Faraz, was killed in an attack in Bannu. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that on February 21, operations were conducted in Bannu district to prevent an attack on a security forces’ convoy.

According to security sources, five individuals were killed during the operations, including Colonel Shahzad Gul Faraz and his companions. The army said that vehicles and suicide attack equipment intended for the assault were recovered. The operation was carried out to prevent planned attacks and ensure the safety of security personnel.

Meanwhile, the United Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP), led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur, claimed responsibility for the suicide attack in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the group, a suicide attacker collided a bomb-laden motorcycle with a Pakistani security convoy, causing an explosion. Reports indicate that three Pakistani personnel were killed in the incident, including Colonel Shahzad Gul Faraz.

This incident comes amid a recent surge in attacks targeting the Pakistani military in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
