Pakistan’s Efforts to Restore Credibility: Shehbaz Meets Saudi Crown Prince

At a time when Pakistan is facing political and economic pressures at the regional level, its recent moves indicate an increase in diplomatic efforts aimed at rebuilding its lost credibility. Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, where they discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and particularly the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to the Saudi state news agency, both sides emphasized the continuation of diplomatic efforts to restore regional stability. However, analysts say such meetings are largely attempts by Pakistan to improve its global image rather than signals of genuine policy change.

Pakistan, long accused of pursuing a dual-track policy, is now trying to present itself as a supporter of regional stability. Critics, however, argue that Islamabad continues to play a role in deepening regional crises in practice.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s economic situation has also cast a shadow over its foreign policy. For years, Islamabad has relied heavily on Saudi Arabia for financial support, receiving billions of dollars in loans and aid at various times. Experts say this economic dependence raises serious questions about Pakistan’s policy independence.

Regional analysts emphasize that Pakistan is attempting to portray itself as a proponent of peace and stability while simultaneously maintaining its influence. However, these contradictions continue to undermine trust among international and regional actors.

They argue that if Pakistan genuinely seeks to restore its lost credibility, it must abandon its dual policies and take practical steps toward ensuring regional stability.
