Former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai says that recent developments indicate efforts to give formal recognition to the so-called Durand Line, which he described as a violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty.
Karzai stated that in recent times, military and economic pressure has increased on villages and communities living near the Durand Line from the side of Pakistan.
He said the apparent aim of these pressures is to force local residents to approach Pakistani authorities to resolve security and other issues.
According to him, as a result of this situation, documents referred to as “peace agreements” have been signed between some tribal elders from both sides of the border, which have also been officially confirmed and welcomed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Karzai described these actions as an attempt by Pakistan to formalize the Durand Line and as a move against Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
He further stressed that the relevant authorities should provide clear explanations to the Afghan people regarding these developments.
