Bill Gates Foundation Provides $600,000 in Aid to Earthquake Victims in Afghanistan

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that a $600,000 donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will support emergency winter assistance for children and families affected by recent earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan.

According to a UNICEF statement, the funding will be used for urgent humanitarian response efforts aimed at helping children and families who have suffered losses due to the earthquakes, particularly during the harsh winter season.

UNICEF said the financial contribution will enable the organization to distribute emergency cash assistance to around 1045 affected families, helping them meet basic needs such as food, heating, and medical care.

Afghanistan has experienced a series of natural disasters in recent months, especially earthquakes, which have caused significant damage to communities in eastern provinces. These disasters have occurred at a time when the country is already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis, widespread poverty, and extreme winter conditions.

International humanitarian organizations stress that children are the most vulnerable group in such emergencies and require urgent and sustained support. UNICEF emphasized that continued assistance from international donors is vital to ensure ongoing humanitarian aid for vulnerable children and families across Afghanistan.
