World Bank: Taliban Government Spent 48% of 2025 Budget on Security

A recent World Bank report indicates that during the 2025 fiscal year, the Taliban government allocated nearly half of its revenues to security-related expenditures. According to the report, out of the AFN 200 billion collected by the government this year, around AFN 96.6 billion, equivalent to 48%, was spent on security.

At the same time, only AFN 15.7 billion was earmarked for development programmes. The report also notes that the budget deficit has reached approximately AFN 2 billion.

Meanwhile, analysts stress that a balanced budget structure requires an appropriate allocation between security and development spending to effectively meet the needs of the population and support economic growth in Afghanistan.

Some experts warn that if these spending patterns continue, there may be little to no budget available for development projects in the next fiscal year.
