Afghans honor Ahmad Shah Abdali with the title “Ahmad Shah Baba” (Father of the Nation). In addition to being a military commander and statesman, he was also a patron of literature and a poet. Some of his Pashto and Persian poems continue to hold an important place in Afghan literary heritage.
