The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that Afghanistan is among the countries with the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.
OCHA stated that around 600 deaths occur per 100,000 live births in the country.
It added that access to skilled healthcare services and female health workers saves mothers’ lives, but restrictions on women’s participation have reduced access to essential life-saving health services.
