A Mother Gives Birth to Quintuplets in Balkh Province

The Balkh Public Health Directorate says that a mother has given birth to five babies at the Balkh Regional Hospital.

According to the directorate, the newborns include three girls and two boys. Health officials stated that both the mother and the babies are in stable condition and remain under medical supervision.

The children’s father, Abdullah Alwazi, has appealed to humanitarian organizations, charities, and wealthy individuals to assist his family with the care, upbringing, and basic needs of the newborns.

In Afghanistan, particularly in rural and remote areas, access to maternal healthcare and childbirth-related services remains a significant challenge. Limited access to health facilities, shortages of skilled midwives and doctors, economic hardships, and inadequate medical equipment continue to expose many women to risks during pregnancy and childbirth.

Health experts emphasize that reducing maternal and infant mortality rates requires expanding prenatal and postnatal healthcare services, ensuring the availability of qualified medical personnel, and strengthening healthcare facilities. The successful delivery of quintuplets at Balkh Regional Hospital comes at a time when access to maternal healthcare remains limited in many parts of the country.
