Zalmay Khalilzad: Pakistan Is Facing a Deep Crisis

Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad says Pakistan is facing a deep political, economic, and security crisis.

According to Khalilzad, rising public debt, high unemployment, declining investment, security challenges in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, strained relations with neighboring countries, and ongoing political disputes have placed increasing pressure on the Pakistani government.

He adds that political distrust has deepened since the legal case involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan, negatively affecting governance in the country.

Khalilzad stresses that if Pakistan wants to overcome its current challenges, it should prioritize mutual respect, regional cooperation, the rule of law, and domestic reforms. He argues that continuing current policies will not only affect Pakistan but could also have negative consequences for regional stability.
