Karzai: Afghans do not want war; girls should be allowed to continue their education

Former President Hamid Karzai, in a recent interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel, said that his own family has also been affected by restrictions on girls’ education.

Karzai stated that one of his daughters continues her studies online beyond the sixth grade, another is currently in the sixth grade and, according to him, in a few months the school doors will also be closed to her, while his youngest daughter is studying in the third grade.

He also spoke about the general situation in the country, saying that Afghans are tired of more than forty years of war and never want to be drawn into conflict again. He emphasized that people seek peace, stability, and a system based on the will of the people.

The former president added that security in the country has improved compared to the past, although some problems still exist, but he stressed that no one should ever wish for the collapse of the system.

Hamid Karzai once again called on the Taliban government to allow girls to continue their education beyond the sixth grade and to respect the right to education.
